Day two

Day two

We started the day by heading off to the SWB office. To get their we walked through the crazy traffic.  After an awesome orientation we went to our first Viet lunch at a swanky restaurant that was having two traditional weddings going on in the background.

After a morning of orientation and meet and greet we met up with some SWB volunteers and went on a wander around the city to pick up a few essentials like local cell phones and SIM cards. A basic pay as you go cell is about 20ish dollars Canadian, so I grabbed one of those and a plug adapter ( about 80 cents) and we went on the way.

On the way back we hopped on a city bus for about 30 cents, and started a for a drive back to the general area of our hotel. Apparently it is the moon festival soon, so the traffic was insane. There really is no real way to describe it… but I can defiantly see one of our group getting clipped by a scooter at some point. There is no real comparison to it in Canada. Some people say it is like driving in New York or Miami, since everyone just seems to be doing their own thing. But everyone seems to know what is going on, and they all signal to each other, with horns, at every opportunity.

Anyways for dinner we went off to our first restaurant unescorted without anyone to translate.  It was kinda interesting since no one spoke any English. And our Viet is kinda dodgy. Ordering food was accomplished through a lot of gesturing and broken language on the parts of both parties. The staff seemed to really like our guide book, and seemed to be having a lot of fun judging the language use

Eventually we had an awesome meal and some more home brew beer – and it was a good end to the day.
